3-Seed Kaiser Rolls You Can Make At Home

Posted on

If you want an amazing kaiser roll, of course, there is no better option than heading to your local bakery. But what if the nearest bakery is further away than you want to drive or does not happen to be open? Then, you can make your own kaiser rolls at home! While it's not always easy to make kaiser rolls that taste like they're from a local bakery, this 3-seed recipe will allow you to get pretty close.

To make 12 medium kaiser rolls, you will need:

Directions

Start by toasting your seeds so you have them all ready to go. You can just spread them all out, together, on a baking sheet and put them in a 350-degree F oven for 5 minutes. Do not let them go any longer than this, or they may get too brown.

With your seeds all toasted, it's time to start working on the rolls. In a large mixing bowl, combine the water, honey, and yeast. Stir to dissolve the yeast, and then let sit for 5 minutes. This gives the yeast a head start feeding on the sugar.

When your yeast mixture is frothy, add 2 cups of flour, the egg, the oil, and the salt. Stir to create a shaggy dough. Then, slowly add the remaining cup of flour, stirring until a soft dough forms.

Knead your soft dough for about 5 minutes, or until it is nice and elastic. Shape the dough into a ball, place it in an oiled bowl, cover it in plastic wrap, and let it rise for about 90 minutes.

Press down on your dough to release the air, and then cut it into 12 even portions. Let your dough portions rest for 10 minutes, and then shape them each into rolls. Dip each roll into milk, and then into the seed mixture. Spread the rolls out on baking sheets, and cover them lightly with plastic wrap. Let rise for 45 minutes.

Remove the plastic wrap, and place the rolls in a 400-degree F oven. Bake for 20-23 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool and enjoy your kaiser rolls as desired.
